The Problem with Father’s Day and why it Sucks

    March 12, 2019 /

Well, well, well. We are just months away from the ‘holiday’ that is more celebrated than Jesus’ birthday. The one holiday that surpasses the slaughter of turkeys and this country’s day of ‘independence’ combined. Which holiday might that be you ask? Father’s Day. How do People Remember Father’s Day? Is it the plethora of Father’s Day commercials offering discounts on tools, clothing, buffets, and such? Does your mother remind you about Father’s Day? How about your friends? Or maybe even pops himself? No one? Okay. Father’s Day USUALLY runs on a Sunday. There are no football games to look forward to watching. The NBA finals are usually over, so how…

A Mini-Rant on why You may not be a Real ‘Single Mother’, & More

    February 21, 2019 /

I have three small topics I want to quickly address – (1) The single mother monicker. More specifically, women who refer to themselves ‘single mothers’. (2) The disrespectful humiliation of high school wrestler Andrew Johnson. (3) The criticisms offered by Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless on Charles Barkley. But first, Happy 2019 to all the readers! I wish everyone a blessed, bountiful, productive year. Hopefully, whatever baggage, toxicisms (yes it’s a word to me, so what) and drama you endured, you left it in the rearview mirror. Remember, life moves forward and everything you go through is a learning experience. Having said that let’s get on with it with our first…

“I’m Single but too shy to Talk to Guys. Help!” | Ask The Men

    January 15, 2018 /

Dear Ask The Men, “I am a 45 year old, soon to be divorced woman, and mother of three. My daughters are currently attending college and my son is eleven years old. I was in a marital relationship for 21 years. Prior to that I had very little experience with men. In fact, my soon to be ex was my first boyfriend. I would describe myself as a late bloomer and I am proud to say I’m sexier today than I was 20 years ago.  Any hoo, I’m no where near ready to date, but I must admit I do think about my future and if it would ever include having…

8 Important Qualities Your Child’s Teacher Must Have

    September 28, 2017 /

“Hey I don’t care if you do the work, or whether you pass or not, I get paid regardless” Sound familiar? Readers, we’ve all been there with teachers. We’ve had good ones, bad ones, and great ones. We’ve had ones that played the role of psychiatrist, therapist, an uncle/aunt figure, and even some like a second mother or father. We’ve even had ones that would repeat the aforementioned phrase or one that’s eerily close. Well going off my experiences in my school career, here’s to me what makes a model educator. Determination and dedication To make a small connection here, if you’re an athlete with God-given ability, you don’t have…

5 Things You Need to Unlearn About Men

    June 26, 2017 /

Many moons ago, I wrote a piece titled the 7 Myths About Women That Men Really Hate and I’ve always meant to do one on men but never got around to it. Well I’ve gotten around to it and put together a short list of long-standing stereotypes about men that have had their run. Let’s put these myths to bed. Speaking of beds… [Black] men are well endowed I don’t spend a lot of time in men’s locker rooms nor have I been accused of being a wiener-screener or pecker-checker. Having said that, I think black men get a bad rap for having a full…er,…umm…package. Now hold on, I know what you’re…

The Black Folk’s Guide to Summertime Cookouts

    June 13, 2017 /

Summer is fast approaching and the weather is ripe for some outdoor cooking, and I’m sure before the Fall, you would have hosted or went to about a half dozen cookouts (barbecues). I’m also sure you will have plenty of stories to share from which drunk uncle acted up, who flipped the table over in spades, who ‘put their foot’ in the BBQ chicken, down to who dressed scantily clad. However there’s rules and levels to attending BBQ’s. So allow me to share some tips if you please to help you avoid being a bigger jerk than the chicken.   Proper Cookout Etiquette (The Do’s)   BRING SOMETHING OR ASK…

Maybe the Honey Does Taste Sweeter in La La Land

    June 9, 2017 /

So Carmelo Anthony and (now) estranged wife La La are in the headlines again. This time, however, no NBA star taunted him with how good she tasted. This time around, he was busted smangin’ a stripper (not in the act though). They are currently separated and I’m sure divorce is on the horizon. So here’s the kicker – recently in an interview, comedian Chris Rock expressed somewhat of an interest in the soon to be former Mrs. Anthony on the Wendy Williams show. “If La La is interested in going short next time,…” “La La is bad, woo”! “Hey, they’re married; you’re not supposed to mess with other team’s players.…

“Are you serious??!” “Wait….hold up, he won?” ” (Player X) did better than him, how dafuq did he win?!” Sound familiar? Well to all you sports fans out there I’m sure you’ve muttered these phrases at some point upon finding out a well deserving player was snubbed out of an award by a player that’s also very good but shouldn’t have won an award over him. “Well run yo trophy bruh, I gots ta have it”. We’ll take a look at some of the biggest robberies of awards in pro sports. I’m sure you have plenty of your own, so be sure to leave them in the comments section. Let’s…

7 Spades Tips to Help You win More Games

    April 25, 2017 /

You’re sitting at the table. The four of you looking around to see who wins. You glance at the score to see it’s deadlocked 240-240 (game to 300), and you need 6 books to score the victory. You look at your hand – 5 diamonds, 4 hearts, 3 clubs, and 1 spade. No aces. You look at your partner and he gives you that look with a slight nod. You’re confident you have a shot of winning. “All I got is one”, you announce. Your partner looks at the two opponents, you, his hand again, and bellows out, “I got 5 [books] and a possible”! Before you can blink, you lose 300-150.…

When Marriage Proposals go Wrong: If she says “No”, is all Hope Lost?

    April 17, 2017 /

Allow me to set the scene: Music is playing. Several people are even shaking their tail feathers. Drinks are flowing, food is in abundance, and everyone is mingling with each other. The men are in the next room getting their card game on. Mike – while partaking in the events of the party – is feeling nervous. He has been dating Shana for two years and he wants to pop the question. Midway through the party he seizes the opportunity and asks the DJ to stop the music. He requests everyone’s attention and then brings Shana to the middle of the spacious room. Mike, once on edge, now becomes relaxed. He holds…
