Hollywood’s White Saviors and the Negro Damsels in Distress
Before I begin, I would like you to take a look at many of the movies and shows that have been filmed over the years and I ask you, “What do they have in common”? As a matter of fact, lets take a very brief look at a few right now. ‘Conrack’ Filmed: 1974 Starring: Jon Voight, Antonio Vargas, Madge Sinclair Pat Conroy (Voight), an educator, is assigned to Yamacraw Island located off the coast of South Carolina to teach African-American students who are extremely poor, very illiterate and know nothing outside of the world they live in. He teaches them not only basic academic skills but about the ‘American’…

Rants on Twerking, Interracial Relationships and Celebrity Foolishness
Over the past couple of weeks a lot of different things have come up in the news from issues with North Korea to Rick Ross losing his damn mind and rapping about drugging women and having sex with them. It got my wheels turning, so again I’ll be voicing my opinion on the aforementioned topics and more. 1. Iron Sheik is a funny Mo’Fo “Hulk Hogan is a blonde jabroni piece of sh**. If not for Sheiky there would be no Hulk Hogan” I was on you tube some years back and I was surfing around entertaining myself, and I came across a link and it said: “Iron Sheik explains why he doesn’t like…

Black Democratic Voters Unchained, Republicans Unchanged: Politics as Usual
In the wake of a paradigm shifting election where evangelical Christians voted overwhelmingly for a devout Mormon, a black man was reelected as president in spite of a stalling economy and the long discussed demographic clout of the growing Hispanic population was finally felt, one voting bloc remained unchanged; black people still continued to vote overwhelmingly democratic. With Charles Krauthammer leading the charge, bringing the Hispanic vote into the republican fold has been agreed upon prescription for future Republican success (and understandably so), but with margins so thin in swing states, why no push to bring the naturally conservative black voter back into the party of Lincoln? Understanding why black…

Cultural Stereotypes in Media – Is This Jamaican Accent Phony, Funny or Offensive?
Jamaican me crazy. Over the last few days, there has been a lot of talk in the mainstream media (and social media outlets) surrounding a particular advertisement slated to air during the largest viewed sporting event in America – The Super Bowl. The 60 second ad spot is from German auto-manufacturer, Volkswagen, and features an office worker attempting to spread cheer to his fellow colleagues during what appears to be a very low morale day at the office. Seems innocent enough. Right? Well he speaks with a very thick and noticeable accent to which one might respond, “Nothing wrong with that. Lots of people have accents”. It’s a fake ‘Jamaican’ accent,…

Is Reality TV the Reason We’re Losing our Values?
From (RHOA) Ratchet Housewives of America, to Lust & Hip Pop, to Jump shot Jump Offs -aka- Flagrant Foul Floozies, reality television has made its mark on modern day culture and it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. The aforementioned are just a few creative examples of countless shows that have surfaced over the years as networks continue to churn them out faster than you can say, “Gone with the wind fabulous”. Given the overwhelming popularity of the genre, there is no question that reality television continues to command our interests while dominating television airwaves. Now what do these shows have in common? Well, apart from the obvious…

Will Pro Wrestling Ever Suplex it’s Racial Stereotypes?
Picture this: Circa 1980’s. You’re in Madison Square Garden (MSG). The crowd noise is deafening, there’s electricity in the air, it’s crazy. At a New York Knicks game you ask? No. Or maybe you’re at a New York Rangers game? No. You are at a WWF event. This was back during a time when Pro Wrestling transcended sports and it was an extremely hot commodity. So you’re in MSG, the mecca of Pro Wrestling. You hear the bass thumping, and the speakers blaring. You hear the familiar song of “Grab Them Cakes!!” and you see Sylvester Ritter (known at that time as the Junk Yard Dog) coming down the aisle ready to grapple.…
